Just as our nation is politically divided many homeowners have a strong cognitive bias against reverse mortgages. In such circumstances it’s not what you say, it’s what they hear.

  2. So right!!! I just had a potential client completely misunderstand what I presented. Yes, I do need more training and really appreciate it when others, even other HECM L.O.s listen in and give me advise.

  3. Well said Shannon. When I got into this business, I couldn’t have imagined the degree of misinformation that plagues our market … and our clients NEED our solutions so badly!! I mean … if Coronavirus didn’t remind you of how quickly things can change, nothing will. So I decided that rather than asking others to “do as I say”, I’d suggest that they “do as I DO”. That’s right, I took out a reverse mortgage myself, to experience what my borrowers were experiencing, and to BUY INTO the product for real.

    Am I a better communicator now than I was before? Maybe so. Am I an evangelist … tried by fire … 100% committed … with real skin in the game? Yes indeed!
