Practicing the art of intentional thinking
If you want to travel abroad you will need a passport. And truth be told, many of us find ourselves occasionally stuck on the continent of negativity hoping someday to make the trip to the land of optimism. But first you’ll need a passport, and that passport is your attitude...

Shannon,
You said a mouth full in this segment of yours! The negativity is so bad in our environment today, unbelievable! Positive thinking does so much to motivate ones life and what they do throughout their day!
Good Job my friend,

AMEN, Stay Away From The Negative People, They Will DRAG You Down…
Amen to that!
I doubt if many want to live in a world of negativity. Yet that is realm we must endure if we are to be realistic about the short-term nature of our industry. Everyone wants to point to this or that we could be adding to our daily routine that will make us more productive. Yet does that work? Those sales leaders who dread looking at actual results know that what they speak in very few ways match what is occurring in this boutique industry of ours.
I love reading the Bible but if one was to measure negativity in its contents versus hope, well one would be working at it for some time to come. Even in this great book of books, God is working to transform man into His complete image despite a world full of sin. Even while living on this earth, the Bible tells us that Jesus did not entrust Himself to men because He knows all men (John 2:24).
When I am most euphoric is when I am most vulnerable. One of the famous terms invented by Alan Greenspan is “irrational exuberance.” I remember the exuberance I saw in traders about derivatives. When asked what they were, the traders would either go into a deep and never ending dive about mathematics (of which they knew little) or they would tell you that was just above their pay grade. When it came to Madoff, he made people feel GOOD about their investments (not apprehensive). Feeling good and having a positive outlook all of the time leads to the irrational exuberance that we saw in the stock market during the last few years of the Clinton Administration.
Looking on the bright side is helpful but leads to a gate that is very broad headed for destruction. One can find many stories about “Shangri La” and places similar to it but where is it? Some make up stories about what heaven is like without realizing that at the end of the Bible (Revelation 21 and 22) even God leaves heaven to come to a new earth to dwell with man.
Let us be factual. Our industry is a mess but fighting to come out of it. Everyday is not going to be the day I make a $20,000 commission on a proprietary reverse mortgage close but today I am six feet above (give or take) where I will eventually end up and so I want to make as much of this day as I can. Be grateful for today; tomorrow has its own evil.
Great piece! I agree and we all need reminding.
