While it is perfectly logical to compare the HECM endorsement volume to that of prior calendar years, except for 2020, all of the other years shown are that of the corresponding fiscal years.
It is true that total HECM Case Number Assignments fell in November 2020 but this is a seasonal issue. Normally we see drops in Case Number Assignments during November and December of each year. It would seem that when HUD reports HECM Case Number Assignment activity for December 2020, the count will be lower than for November 2020. The trend should be treated as particularly negative.
The Case Number Assignment volume should start turning around this month.
Thank you very much PR- This was an error I would never make under normal atmospheric conditions, however, reentry from holiday has put me in the position to make this notable correction. The video and annual chart (by FY) have both been updated. Thanks again.

Shannon,
Happy New Year,
Like you, I get hurried as well as shown by my own error.
Hopefully, things will get back to “normal” before the end of Summer 2021.
Keep up your excellent communication.

The following statement is wrong: “The trend should be treated as particularly negative.”
It should read: “The trend should NOT be considered as particularly negative.”
This shows that most of us are prone to error.
